Homemade Country Eggnog

Nothing beats a cold glass of eggnog around the holidays, espcially if it’s homemade. Why, you ask? Homemade eggnog has more of a custard-like texture, and whipping the eggs makes for a much lighter eggnog than pre-made options. Grace your guests at your holiday party with the homemade difference using this one-pan recipe! Warning: doing so may develop a line of guests, empty cup in hand, asking for more ‘nog.

What You’ll Need:

  • 4 cups milk
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 12 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup bourbon, (optional)
  • 1 cup chilled heavy cream
  • Grated nutmeg, (optional)

  1. Whisk milk and sugar over medium heat in saucepan until sugar is dissolved, 1 to 2 minutes. In a large bowl, whisk egg yolks. Whisking constantly, pour hot mixture into yolks in a slow and steady stream.
  2. Return mixture to pan; cook over medium-low heat, and stir until thick enough to coat back of spoon (about 20 minutes). Quickly strain into a bowl. Stir in bourbon and cream. Cool completely and refrigerate. Garnish with nutmeg.
